Swaziland’s government sells food aid donated to the country

Report suggest, the maize donated by the Japanese government to feed hungry Swazis has been sold by the Swaziland’s government for US$3 million and the money deposited in the Central Bank of Swaziland. This sounds so familiar, the only difference is, performance management standards may be transparent in this case than with other African counterparts......

This sale was not made public until an item about the transaction appeared in a performance report presented by the ministry to the Swaziland Parliament for review last week. This showed that nearly 12,000 metric tons of donated maize was sold by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development in 2011

Swaziland has been unable to produce enough food to feed itself since the 1970s, and as such relies heavily on international food aid for support.
