Movie Review:

DECODED is a made in Cameroon movie; Shot in August of 2012 between Limbe and Buea, it stars Ghanaina actor Van Vicker, Jeffery Epule, Desmond Wyte, Solange Yijika and brilliant others . DECODED was produced by producer and actor Brenda Elun, directed by Akim Macauley and Enah Johnscott.

Just as its name states, the truth is encrypt; leaving you glued to the edge of your sit wondering and eager to discover the next scene. One part of the story goes like this:

DECODED KILLY STEVE (EPULLE JEFF) a guy known for his fame as an actor, dreams to have the most luxurious weddings to his beautiful wife, JASMIN (SOLANGE YIJIKA)
His best man NICOLAS (BUH PROXY) has an agenda of his own. Nick has plans to have a taste of Steve’s woman by hook or by crook . JASMIN indulges in Nick's advances and does tell her darling husband to be STEVE, thus settling between a hard place and a rock.
Something must be done to get someone in or out. And that someone is STEVES best friend DAVID (VAN VICKER) stumbles into STEVE on the eve of this so promising wedding . DAVE, upon introduction, turns out to be an even bigger "player" who will wrestle heaven to get JASMIN.
Now, best friend and best man wrestle secretly with each other to have a taste of this FAIR GEM before night falls. A fight that lands NICK to a position of being STEVE’S Punching bag when he meets him forcing to get a taste of his wife to be. The star arrives only when pictures of DAVE AND JASMIN are spilled in STEVE's mansion, at a time the mansion is filled friends and family, making final arrangements of the wedding. A revelation that results in DAVE getting series of blows and turns the whole night into a time of revelation and DECODING of codes. STEVE is to father the child of JASMINES best friend, TRISHIA(ADEL DIKANA), who before arriving at the Mansion just plotted the death of DOCTOR HANS (OTIA VITALIS) {The only one who knows LELA is not MAYA’S kid and blackmails TRISHA for it}, through MISS BROOKS (BRENDA ELUNG) who will do anything to have TRISHIA’S man, MAYA(DESMOND WYTE).
All these secrets are DECODED in a night of TRUTH and REVELATION. DECODED, with its most favoured dialogue line “THIS ISN’T HEAVEN, IT’S THE WORLD, AND THERE ARE BOUND TO BE TROUBLES”. As described by I REP CAMER
DECODED is indeed a love story movie with toe coiling and mouth dropping twists especially from the beautiful actress Elsie Senge. Her part left the audience flabbergasted and asking questions such as WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE and HOW from one sequence to another. From all the cast, Elsie was rated as the best actress whom without flaws succeeded from her guts, in translating the complexity of her character (the raped good girl; which the incidence left her in a psychological and emotional trauma). Without so much to say from the script, Elsie and Desmond Wyte proved they have much more than just talents; their ability to be pantomimic in their character is exactly the X -Factor required to transcend internationally.

DECODED is a movie with an intelligently written script and it is no doubt the casting  process was carefully executed; resulting to every actor bringing their A-games on set.

Strategically featuring the Ghanaian A-list movie star and celebrity - Van Vicker, proved how supportive other African famous actors are willing to be part of and contribute to the Cameroon growing film industry.

With DECODED the movie, Cameroon can at last compete with other African countries such as; Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa etc etc etc... Having so much buzz and media coverage, this movies has also introduced the Cameroon film industry and its actors internationally.

So what is empowering about this?
BRENDA SHEY ELUN
CEO OF GOLD AGE ENTERTAINMENT AND VICE BOARD CHAIR LADY OF CFI

Cameroon is a beautiful country in one of the most appreciated continent in the world (Africa). Cameroon is know for its amazing football and multi-diverse culture. With over 200 ethnic groups, such diversity has done a great deal in contributing to how driven and passionate Cameroonian's are. Having the most literacy rate in the African continent, it was put to test in the film industry ; result seen in the movie DECODED.

Despite all said above, Cameroon has no cinema halls although it is the main country hosting the international film festival: Ecran Noir, every year. Indeed there are no channels facilitating the consumption of movies produced by Cameroonians. Such can only be prove of the difficulties facing many film producers and potential sponsors; hence limiting the growth of the Cameroon’s film industry.

However, one woman is proving to us all that, with talent, passion, determination and God above all, missions can be possible; this woman is: Brenda Shey Elung. Her passion and love to see the Cameroon film industry grow to eventually cross international boundaries is the most empowering part.

Brenda is a source of inspiration to all in the film industry and beyond. She has demonstrated that as Cameroonians we must trample and trek on grounds we haven’t before, we must take risk despite our desperate economic, political and social environment.

In a country with almost little or no financial support from the Ministry of Culture/Government, Brenda succeeded in the realisation of a project such as DECODED. Moreover, with no existence of cinema in Cameroon, she again with flying colors organized a premiere of an immense magnitude in Douala; a french speaking city for an english speaking film (subtitled in french). Brenda is sure a force to reckon with in the Cameroon film industry. On the lips of many at home, she is now compared to and called the Shirley Frimpong Manso of Cameroon.
Shirley Frimpong-Manso is a Ghanaian film director, writer, and producer. She is the founder and CEO of Sparrow Productions, a film, television and advertising production company

DECODED is therefore a Must Watched Cameroon film.
