A third of Lesotho' s population has been affected by a food security crisis.

Due to a series of flooding, late rains and early frost, the domestic production of cereal harvest has reduced to only 32 per cent of the national average produced in the last 10 years, causing a major food shortage.

It is estimated that about 725,000 people in Lesotho that is about a third of the country's population has been affected by a food security crisis.

On 9 August 2012, the Prime Minister of Lesotho, Thomas Motsoahae Thabane, declared an Emergency Food Crisis. On 13 September 2012, the Government launched an appeal for $170 million to support the most vulnerable people from September 2012 to June 2013.
In this interview, the Prime Minister and the UN's Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos talk about the humanitarian situation in Lesotho and the need to help the people affected by the food crisis.
