15 Christians had their throats slit in Nigeria by suspected extremists

Violence linked to an insurgency by Boko Haram in northern

Suspected Islamist extremists killed 15 Christians by slitting their throats in an attack on a village in Nigeria's volatile northeast, residents and a relief source have claimed.

"From the information gathered, the attackers broke into selected homes and slaughtered 15 people in their sleep," the anonymous relief official said.


A previously attack on  Friday in Musari was confirmed by authorities of which they admitted only five were killed. Musari is located on the outskirts of Maiduguri, the base of Islamist extremist group Boko Haram. Sagir Musa; a Lieutenant Colonel, spokesman for a military task force in the area, accounted on Sunday he stood by the toll of five dead.

It seem the norm is for Authorities to under-report death tolls, however, the relief official's information tend to match that of residents, were it is confirmed 15 people have had their throats slit.
According to residents,  the attackers were suspected to be from Boko Haram.

"The attackers came in and silently went into homes whose residents were all Christians and slit the throats of their victims. They killed 15 people," one resident said.

Violence linked to an insurgency by Boko Haram in northern and central Nigeria has left some 3,000 people dead since 2009, including killings by the security forces.

Nigeria is roughly divided between a mainly Muslim north and predominately Christian south.
