Ghana who once seeked refuge in other African countries, now becomes the perfect and safe place for over three thousand Liberian refugees to apply for integration that will enable them stay in Ghana.

If granted stay in Ghana, it will ensure the closure of the Buduburam refugee camp which has been helpful in accommodating the Liberian refugees; but has certainly not ensured a better living condition. Nevertheless Ghana is still a developing country......as such what do we expect?. Buduburam refugee camp is about an hour on the outskirts of Accra, Ghana. This has always been a place of transit for most Liberians. More pictures after the cut.....
Robtel Pailey describes on newnarratives.org as a place where camp dwellers are like expectant passengers on a flight whose destination is still undetermined. Most of them hope to land in America, or somewhere in Europe, on a resettlement package. They hope to be anywhere but here.
Tetteh Paddy who is the Programs Officer for the Ghana Refugee Board, certified in an interview conducted with XYZ News that; the refugees will be issued with permits to legalise their stay in the country. But, added that, a lot of the requests will not be granted for those Liberians refugees who have applied for special refugees status that will enable them stay in Ghana. More than one thousand of them applied for this special refugees status.
The last batch of Liberian refugees who opted for voluntary repatriation have been sent to their country.

Opinion
Despite Ghana still being a developing country, no one can question it is safe, peaceful, and has strived to perfect its democratic system, which was put to test in their last election. As such we all wish their leniency towards the Liberians is a bold sign of example setting for the Liberian government.
