How much of NBC proceeds go to helping the Syria civilians? True to say, reporting on the various issues that plague the country raises awareness internationally.
Well, the good news is, Richard Engel; US television journalist was freed after he was kidnapped in Syria on Tuesday and held hostage for five days. Here is what the network said:
“After being kidnapped and held for five days inside Syria by an unknown group, NBC News Chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel and his production crew members have been freed unharmed,” the network said in a statement. “We are pleased to report they are safely out of the country,” it said.
The 39 year old Engel, is one of the most high-profile American journalists to report from Syria, which is well known as a place where rebels have long been fighting to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in a civil war that has so far claimed approximately 43,000 lives; statistics according to activists.
According to NBC, Engel and other unnamed employees were reported missing immediately after crossing into Syria border from Turkey on Thursday, and were unreachable until learned they had been freed on Monday.
The network made it clear, there was no claim of responsibility, and no contact with the captors and certainly no ransom paid.
