Forbes nominated Alhaji Aliko Dangote the president of Dangote Group and Mr Tony Elumelu the Chairman of Heirs Holdings for the Africa Person of the Year Award. Three other Africans completed the five man list for the 2012 Forbes Africa Person of the Year award:Malawian President Joyce Banda, Managing Director of Kenya’s Equity Bank Limited, Dr. James Mwangi and co-founder of Aspen Pharmacare, Mr. Stephen Saad. Alhaji Aliko Dangote who was the runner-up on 2011 Forbes Africa Person of the Year Award, is still Africa’s richest man, worth more than $11.2 Billion. The winner of this award whoever he is must have had a remarkable influence on the events of the year on the African continents.

Nollywood actor Jim Iyke opens up about the allegation of been the father of an 11year old

After past accusations of been the father of an 11 year old, the Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has recently opened up about the allegation. The alleged 11 year old son is with an Abia state University undergraduate (now a Uk based Barrister) named Chantelle Nkechi Benson.  His PR team  released a statement saying following:

“Jim Iyke is aware of the viral story currently making the headlines and wishes to state that this is not the first time that issues of this nature have arisen. Friends and fans who follow his activities closely will recall a number of occasions in the past when baseless claims of paternity and even marriage were made. Nonetheless, as a responsible man, he is always disposed to verify any such development(s) brought to his attention and when any satisfactory outcome has been ascertained, the general public will be duly informed without ambiguity. The only specifics at the present time is that at the age of 22yrs-23yrs old he dated for a brief period the lady at the center of the story who subsequently left Nigeria for the UK. “There had been no contact between them ever since and by implication no linkling of the existence of a living product of that encounter. Since this is more about an innocent child than the star himself we advise caution and respect for privacy.”

Today is UN Day

Today the 24th of October is the UN Day!
On behave of the UN body responsible for the mobilization and coordination of humanitarian response, OCHA has raised US $2.4 billion for emergency relief since 2006.  Last year alone, OCHA coordinated humanitarian relief for 56 million affected people, nearly double the number from three years ago.

France to send drones to monitor Mali al-Qaeda

As part of an international intervention to free the west African country from al-Qaeda-backed insurgents, France is planning to send drones into Mali.  Al-Qaeda-backed insurgents control large swaths of its territory, according to reports.

 Moving the  surveillance drones to this region is part of plans with the US, According to a french defense official, the fears is that, if left unchecked, the crisis could serve as a launch pad for terrorist attacks on its own soil.

Official said France and the US were discussing plans for drones, security and intelligence-gathering in the Sahel region, . The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel showed and offered her support by saying that, Germany would be willing to train Malian forces and would consider providing ''material and logistical support''.

Since the beginning of February it was rumoured on the internet that Cameroon would launch it's own Egypt-inspired protests on February 23, 2011. Once the Egyptian president fell, the call for demonstrations spread even more rapidly.

Among those who relayed and responded to the call, was Ms. Kah Walla, a candidate in the upcoming presidential election in Cameroon in October 2011. She is the founder of Cameroon Ô Bosso (Cameroon Let's Go), a civil society organisation that supports free and fair elections in the country. Cameroon's President Paul Biya, has been in power for 28 years and is running for re-election later this year. His Special Intervention Brigade crushed the protest with force.
