The BIG EARTH AWARDS News conference took place yesterday morning

All Photo Credit: Alenne Menget

The big  Big Earth Awards news conference took place yesterday Monday  7th April, 11 am at the British Language institute Akwa. It was a panel of four peoples: Emmanuel (the moderator),  Ojong Solange (the president) and Nadine Tonguem (Inspired humanitarian activist and blogger).

Before I go further, I will love to urge you all in joining this train waggon in support of The Big Earth Award for the forgotten. Our Cameroon labour force  is dominated by the informal sector making up to 80% of the total labour force. This is huge...! but what is alarming here is, these people who contribute so much to the economic are most ofter forgotten due the type of degrading jobs they have do to feed their families.

The people in this sector have one thing only in their mind: that is providing three square meals to their children, but little do they know they contribute to the bigger society . This is where the BIG EARTH AWARDS  comes in. It empowers them. Makes them recognise they are leaders in their own right.

Minister Louis Bapes Bapes graces headline news again

Picture of Minister Louis Bapes Bapes leaving jail
Like I said in my previous post, Louis Bapes Bapes is the first ever sitting Minister to be taken to custody since the beginning of the Sparrow Hawk operation . According to Cameroon media, he is now known to be the first ever suspect not only to to be charged, placed in custody at the Kondengui prison but also to be released twenty-four hours later. This sudden and abrupt released did not only surprised many but generated many questions.

Wednesday 2nd April 2014, the Minister of Secondary Education: Louis Bapes Bapes resumed work looking very serene but made no declaration yet.

However, the Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma in a brief declaration, stated that the embezzlement case against the Minister of Secondary Education has not been dropped. He will still be required to answer questions but not from the Kondengui prison.

He also added that, the short detention and eventual release is within the confines of the law. And that competent authorities of the Special Criminal Court have the prerogative to detain and release a suspect whenever they think it is necessary.

Two Italian priests and a Canadian nun kidnapped by gunmen in northern Cameroon

PLEASE NOTE: This does not mean Cameroon is not a safe country.

Two Italian priests and a Canadian nun have been kidnapped by gunmen in northern Cameroon, Italy's foreign ministry and media reports said, the latest kidnapping incident targeted Christian clergy in the African country.
The attack occurred overnight in the north of the west African country, which borders violence-wracked Nigeria, according to Italian Ansa news agency's report on Saturday.

This attack comes nearly three months after the release of French priest Georges Vandenbeusch, who was kidnapped in the same region in mid-November 2013 and then held in neighbouring Nigeria by Boko Haram.

One of the two priests taken on Friday night had been in Cameroon for more than six years, while the second had arrived around a year ago, Ansa reported.

Cameroon's Minister of Secondary Education at his residence hours after his release from jail

Louis Mbapes Mbapes, Cameroon's Minister of Secondary Education was released after 24hours in jail. On his arrival at his residence, he was welcomed by many close friends and family. Louis Mbapes Mbapes benefitted from his Parliamentary immunity and was granted temporary bail pending further investigation. Before prosecuting, it is necessary that the immunity be removed, usually by a superior court of justice or by the parliament itself. Meaning he was still a minister at the time of his arrest yesterday. Louis Mbapes Mbapes is the first Minister ever in Cameroon to have gone through such. What a mistake right?????? Hmmmmm Cameroon so much ambiguity in your system. Stay tune for what happens next.

A Homeless mom was jailed for leaving her kids in car to go on job interview.

Holy Merry mother of Christ.....!! A Homeless single mom was jailed for leaving her kids in car to go on job interview. Shanesha Taylor is a 35 year old single mum leaves her two sons, a 2 year old and 6 month old. Taylor is still in jail while her children remain in protective custody. My question is? Was she really wrong to leave her kids in the car to go look for a job? After all she is homeless right...? Any psychologist amoung us...or rather behaviour analyst?

Madamenoire.com reports...

The Scottsdale, Ariz. native was arrested after she left her young sons in a hot SUV that was locked with the windows cracked as she went for a job interview at an insurance company. A passerby heard Taylor’s youngest child crying and called police. When they arrived, Taylor returned to her car 45 minutes after police got to the scene, and when police arrested her, the two boys were reportedly “crying and sweating profusely.” Taylor told police that she was homeless and needed the work, and because she couldn’t find someone to watch her kids, she had to take them with her. This event occurred on March 20.
